
David Standring, Ph.D., has served as
executive vice president, biology at Idenix Pharmaceuticals since January 2008.
Dr. Standring joined Idenix in 2000 as executive director of research and
development and became vice president, biology in May 2002 and senior vice
president, biology in March 2006. Before joining Idenix, Dr. Standring was
affiliated with Schering Plough Research Institute as an associate director of
virology. Prior to that position he was with Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pharmaceutical Research Institute as group leader of hepatitis, where he was
responsible for hepatitis research programs leading to the filing of
Investigational New Drug (IND) applications and subsequent clinical development
of several hepatitis drug candidates. Before entering the pharmaceutical
industry, Dr. Standring was assistant professor at the University of California
at San Francisco where he pioneered groundbreaking research describing the
assembly and replication of the hepatitis B virus. Dr. Standring holds a Ph.D.
in bioorganic chemistry from Harvard University and a bachelor’s and master’s
degree in chemistry from St. John’s College at the University of Oxford.
